Summary:
The Path Core is a centralized service that is responsible for the standardized acquisition, storage, characterization and distribution of human tissues to HNC investigators. The success of any clinical trial hinges on investigators producing accurate and reliable preclinical data. The Path Core’s mission for biospecimen quality and efficiency is critical in helping investigators achieve these results.
Specific Aims:
-
Aim 1: To collect, process, preserve and distribute HNC biospecimens.
-
Aim 2: To provide and maintain a centralized HN SPORE biospecimen bioinformatics database.
-
Aim 3: To provide a full range of expert services for biospecimen characterization.
-
Aim 4: To serve and support HN SPORE investigators and collaborate with other investigators in the HNC research community.

The HN SPORE Path Core would not be able to collect the number of biospecimens needed for Head and Neck Cancer research without the help of UW Health ENT nursing staff. They help by asking patients if they are interested in donating leftover cancer tissue that is not needed for clinical application. Investigators use this tissue in head and neck cancer research to improve treatments for future patients. The ENT nursing staff works with the Cancer Center WiscShare
